Team USA pipped Great Britain in a thrilling jump-off at the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup of the United States of America at Deeridge Farm in Wellington, Florida, where Mexico finished third ahead of Canada in fourth place. Israel and Ireland finished joint-fifth while Australia and Brazil finished equal-seventh. This was the first leg of the 2020 series, and a total of eight nations competed, with America and Britain both fielding all-female sides but the British battling particularly bravely with only three riders in their team. And after the first two rounds over the track, these two countries were drawn on eight faults each, so it came down to a third-round one-rider race against the clock. Double Olympic gold medallist Beezie Madden with Darry Lou scorched home clear in 33.11 seconds to set a strong target. Great Britain's Alexandra Thornton and Cornetto K also left all the fences in place, but when they broke the beam in 36.34 seconds it was a host-nation victory and the perfect start to the three-leg North and Central America and Caribbean League for Team USA.
