Peter Stössel takes over the presidency. His era includes the organisation of the European Show Jumping Championships in 1995 and the staging of the Nations Cup tournament in the even years from 2000 to 2006, also in Lucerne.
European Show Jumping Championships at Gründenmoos. The Swiss quartet wins the bronze medal behind Great Britain and France.
Lucerne cannot hold the Nations Cup of Switzerland because the Allmend is not ready. In St.Gallen, the Breitfeld is not available due to the construction of the motorway and the Gründenmoos is still under construction. The football championship is over and it is possible to hold the first Nations Cup in St.Gallen at the Espenmoos stadium. The stables can be accommodated in one of the Olma halls.
The St.Gallen Equestrian Cooperative organises the 8th European Dressage Championships. Christine Stückelberger wins the gold medal with Granat, and the team with Ulrich Lehmann on Widin and Claire Koch on Scorpio wins silver. Due to the start of construction of the motorway, it is the last event on the Breitfeld.
European Championship of the Amazons at the Breitfeld (until 1973 separate championships for men and women).
Dr Konrad "Zabi" Widmer takes over the presidency of the International Equestrian Festival. His first tournament is totally rained out. He decides to make the tournament even more international and invites well-known foreign riders. Fashion, music and show elements have a high priority in his concept and become popular attractions for the public.
The 16th FEI Dressage Championships (considered the unofficial European Championships) are held at Breitfeld. Henri Chammartin wins the Grand Prix on Wöhler.
Under the new OC President Hans Hausamann, the tournament called "St.Galler Internationale Pferdesporttage" becomes international. First as a border country tournament, later as the Concours Hippique International (CHI). St.Gallen is considered a centre of the textile industry and so the elegance of fashion mixed with the traditional and rural background of the majority of the spectators gives the tournament a special flair.

On the Breitfeld, the race club organises the first jumping tournament on 9 October 1910. There are four jumping competitions. No races. The prize money for the main competition is 1,250 Swiss francs.
The regional association (today OKV) held the first two show jumping competitions in St.Gallen - the more important one with prize money of 650 francs - together with seven races on 11 July 1909 on the Kreuzbleiche.
In June 1909, the first Nations Cup in the history of show jumping was held at the London International Horse Show. Six teams with three participants each took part. The French team won ahead of Italy and Great Britain.
