Following the cancellation of all other qualifying tournaments in recent months except those held in Wellington and Abu Dhabi in February, the Longines FEI Nations Cup Final 2020 in Barcelona, scheduled for 2-4 October, has now also been cancelled. According to FEI President Ingmar de Vos, all possible scenarios were examined. These included the possibility of running the event behind closed doors without spectators. But the combination of the current situation in Catalonia and the ongoing international travel restrictions had now led to the cancellation. The risks were simply too great, he said, because the health and safety of everyone comes first. As there will be no promotion and relegation in 2020, Belgium, Germany, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland will remain in Division 1 for the 2021 season.
