The situation before the very last rider of the competition was clear: If Ellen Whitaker (GBR) remained zero, there would be a jump-off for the victory between Belgium and Great Britain. However, when she crossed the finish line, all the poles were still in place, but the scoreboard still showed four points, because the time had not been enough. Thus, the British dropped back to third place with a total of eight points and Belgium could be happy about the victory. Second place went to the Netherlands with five points. Things did not go according to plan for the Swiss team. After the first round, Switzerland was still in third place, but then fell back to eighth and last place in the second round.
